The Alter Group's Commitment
to its Community
Although The Alter Group is first and foremost a corporate real estate developer, we recognize that we have a deep-seated social responsibility to our community. Our company is guided by a core set of values of integrity and ethical behavior that drive progressive programs and good citizenship. Even as The Alter Group grows in size and complexity, we are united in a commitment to addressing society's most pressing issues.
City Year Chicago
The Alter Group's spirit of innovation and its abiding sense of social responsibility continue to this day under current President Michael Alter: In 1994, he founded City Year Chicago, a pioneering national-service program for 17-24 year olds which has completed more than 1,000,000 hours of service in local communities. Through Michael's leadership, City Year has become a compelling example of social entrepreneurship, using private-sector accountability and practices in the nonprofit world in order to confront society's most urgent issues.
WNBA - Chicago Sky
In 2005, Michael Alter announced that he would bring the WNBA to Chicago as a way to promote opportunities for young women in professional athletics. One of only two teams in the country owned privately, the new team has already become a powerful advocate for the value of hard work, education, excellence and sportsmanship.
